Brian and Wendy Froud will be Guests of Honer this year, and there will even be mightnight showings of the movies LABYRINTH & THE DARK CRYSTAL!

Dracula's Ball Halloween info

I just got the email with complete details for the Halloween 2007 Dracula's Ball. Voltaire will be performing, I am such a big fan of his! Hopefully I can get off work that night. But if I can't make it that night, its not the end of the world. He is going to be at Philcon, and so am I, no matter what. (more detailes on Philcon latter.)

Summer's not quite over just yet, but it's already time to start planning
for Halloween. Besides being the most exciting and fun holiday of the
year, Halloween of course is the last Dracula's Ball event of the year, so
don't miss this one, or you'll be waiting until 2008 for the next one.

The next Dracula's Ball event takes place on Halloween: Wednesday, October
31st, 2007, from 9pm-2am. Once in a very blue moon (about every seven
years) Halloween happens to fall on a Wednesday night. When this happens,
our venerable Dracula's Ball event runs into the only big bad wolf that's
been stalking the forest for even longer: Nocturne Wednesdays. Every week
for over eleven years, Nocturne has kept Philadelphia's alternative
underground music scene pumping with new life. Don't miss this fantastic
convergence of Dracula's Ball and Nocturne Wednesday - it'll be many years
before it happens again!

The venue for Dracula's Ball will once again be Shampoo Nightclub, located
at 7th & Willow Streets in Philadelphia. The musical performers are:

CARFAX ABBEY: In a few words: industrial gothic rock metal, a bit like
Stabbing Westward. But if you're thinking of moody songs about lying alone
in a dark room because someone done ya wrong...these ain't the droids
you're looking for. Carfax Abbey are moody and dark, don't
misunderstand...but instead of crying about it, they'd rather stuff someone
in a wood chipper. Metaphorically, of course (we think). But that's the
kind of raw, feral energy you can expect from their intense live show. This
is the official release party for their long-awaited new album, It Screams
Disease, so expect them to take no prisoners. It'll be intense, dramatic,
and hard as nails.

VOLTAIRE: Prepare to shatter every Halloween cliche as the master of
gypsy-goth-satire-rock takes over Dracula's Ball! His sense of humor is
sharper than the pointiest of fangs, and he's not afraid to use it. Sure,
you'll enjoy his uptempo rock music with his fancy string section and
catchy arrangements, but he's just using that to lull you into a sense of
security. Then, before you know it, a witty observation comes out of left
field and you're either laughing your vinyl-clad backside off, or you're
crying away your eyeliner. He's sneaky like that. Unless we somehow managed
to reanimate Brandon Lee, is there anyone else you'd rather spend Halloween
with?

DJ Knobhead somehow manages to make a nightclub actually feel like they
always look in the movies (think Blade in particular). Whether it's the
hottest thumping EBM track straight from Europe, a classic industrial
anthem or even a deadly, slithering goth track, he makes the walls writhe
and boil with sound. DJ Kathy Fadigan actually has a Ph.D, although it's
not in "mixology." Her preferred treatment is a little rewind (80s new
wave, alt-rock and pop classics) and fast forward (cutting edge synthpop
and electro). Pretty in Pink, Back in Black and White Wedding all together.
DJ Jon Gill is often confused for himself because his name appears on
flyers for so many different events. We love his eclectic taste: it's not
often that you hear Kraftwerk, Prince, Wumpscut, She Wants Revenge and
Skinny Puppy in the same set.

Naturally, there will be vendors (some old, some new), door prizes, candy,
people to meet, and plenty to look at. Costumes are not mandatory but are
very strongly encouraged. It's Halloween -- make the most of it!

As always, all ages are welcome at the Dracula's Ball. You must be 21+ w/
proper, valid photo ID to drink alcohol. Photo cameras are allowed at the
Ball; video cameras are not. Please read our
IMPORTANT CHANGE TO CAMERA POLICY: Personal cameras are still allowed, but
professional photo rigs, especially those with very bright intrusive
lights, will require a photo pass.

Tickets are $14 in advance and $16 at the door. You can get tickets

Depp to be Barnabas?

After years of rumors all over the web, I guess its officially true now. Johnny Depp is going to play Barnabas Collins in a movie based on the gothic 60's soap Dark Shadows. As a fan of both Johnny and DS I don't know what to think yet. But I do know that Johnny has always been a big fan of the show, so he will give the roll the proper respect. Graham King to produce Warner feature

Johnny Depp is getting in touch with his inner vampire.

Warner Bros. is teaming with Depp's Infinitum-Nihil and Graham King's GK Films to develop a feature based on the '60s daytime supernatural sudser "Dark Shadows."

Depp has said in interviews that he has always been obsessed with "Dark Shadows" and had, as a child, wanted to be Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series. The role was originated by Jonathan Frid.

A rights deal just closed with the estate of Dan Curtis, the producer/director who created the soap that aired weekdays on ABC, from 1966 to 1971. Depp and King will produce with David Kennedy, who ran Dan Curtis Prods. until Curtis died last year of a brain tumor. Infinitum-Nihil's Christi Dembrowski served as the point person on the deal.

Over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies. The show has a continuing rabid fan base that populates Dark Shadows Festival conventions. Numerous TV revivals of the series and pic adaptations have been attempted over the years but none with as high-wattage a star as Depp.

Depp, who is coming off "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and who just wrapped the Tim Burton-directed "Sweeney Todd," is next expected to star in "Shantaram," a Mira Nair-directed adaptation of the Gregory David Roberts novel that Depp, King and Plan B are producing for Warner Bros. Depp, King and WB are also mobilizing to make a film about the life of Alexander Litvinenko, with Depp poised to play the former KGB agent, who was fatally poisoned.

Wizard's World 2007

As previously reported, Wizard's World Comic book con was here in Philly this past weekend. I had fun, but it wasn't a good as last year. This year the room was a lot smaller and at lot of the booths were empty.

Um...., maybe I should focus on the positives. LOL! There were these cool Star Wars lightsaber fighting demonstration. I saw a neat Barnabas Collins doll that came with 3 interchangeable heads, but he didn't look that well crafted to pay $50 for him, (and its not like its a vintage doll from back when Dark Shadows was on the air, the copy right on the box said 200? something and the guy selling them had about 50 of them sitting there in his booth). But I did manage to come home with a few cool treasures. This one table had really cool necklace charms that have little cameos of horror and scifi icon characters on them and alittle metal charm hanging under that, if I could, I would have bought one of each, but I did manage to walk away with 2 of them. One has Bela Lugosi on it, and the other has Morticia Addams of the 60's TV show on it. The Bela one had a bat hanging from it, and the Morticia one has alittle rose. I got these two really cool black t-shirts with logos from the little known Adultswim cartoon Metaloclypse about a metal band named Dethklok. One of those shirts has this printed on the back "I am a gear in the wheel of the Klok, I fear not my Mortality..." The best thing I got was after looking for a long time was, the complete 12 issues of the comicbook adaption of Anne Rice's The Vampire Lestat by Innovation Comics. The art in the books is very beautiful and in most of the drawings of scens that take place in the 20th century Lestat looks very David Bowie like. The guy that sold the set to me also had complete sets of Interview With A Vampire, and Queen of the Damned but being priced at $80 and $75 respectively, they we just to far out of my budget. VL was always my favorite Rice book anyway and I am very happy to have have a complete set of that one. And it was so much fun re-reading the story with those amazing drawings, I know I will be looking at them over and over again for many years to come.

At this other booth I found out about another con called Philcon. Its mainly a scifi book con, but the woman I talked to said that they are also going to have a masque ball and Voltaire is going to perform. Philcon is going to happen in late November of this year. I am going to try very hard to go to this. I will post updates and I know more.

I just read that my beloved Johnny Depp was named #6 on the list of Forbes Magazine's Word's 100 Most Powerful Celebrities 2007.

The paragraph about Johnny says:
